Use the Power of the Pen

Publish an electronic newsletter, also known as an e-zine. Include educational content so others want to read it. Add a business-related signature to your outgoing e-mail; incorporate your farm name, your location, a tag line describing your services, and your farm’s Web address.

Blog. Add new content every week.

Write an educational column for an area newspaper. Call it “Goat Talk” or “Ewe Read It Here” or “Cattleman’s Corner.” Write it for free with one caveat: your contributor’s byline must include your farm’s contact information.

Write magazine articles for farm and breed periodicals with the same stipulation; many are eager to work with new writers.

Write reports and e-books about training, breeding, or showing the breeds you raise; about their history or bloodlines; or about utilizing the products they produce. Publish them in PDF format, and sell them for a modest amount or offer them as free downloads from your Web site. Include a page about your business, of course.
